Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has granted licenses to seven international automotive companies to operate Internet of Things (IoT) services for vehicles across the country. This move, which was witnessed by ICT Minister Amr Talaat, aims to enhance vehicle connectivity, navigation, tracking, and emergency assistance for Egyptian drivers, all while ensuring user data and privacy protection.
The seven companies that signed the agreements include major groups representing brands like General Motors (OnStar), BMW (Global Auto), Volvo/Aston Martin (Alpha Ezz El-Arab), Audi/Škoda (Egyptian Automotive and Trading Co.), and Porsche/Scania (SMG Engineering Automotive Co.), among others.
Minister Talaat highlighted that integrating these IoT services and leveraging AI technologies will lead to a better driving experience, offering citizens improved safety and convenience. This initiative is a key component of the Digital Egypt strategy, which seeks to adopt advanced global technologies and deliver secure, digitally integrated services within the automotive sector
