Higher Council of Universities Approves "Sohag Venture Company" to Boost Knowledge Economy

Dr. Hassan El-Numani, President of Sohag University, announced that the Higher Council of Universities, in its session held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, chaired by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, approved the establishment of "Sohag Venture Company – SV Co". This marks the first university-owned company in Egypt, set to act as an executive arm for marketing and investing knowledge and innovation within and outside the university. This decision aligns with the directives of the Egyptian state, led by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to support the knowledge-based economy and enhance the role of universities in achieving sustainable development by linking scientific research to community and labor market needs.
Sohag Venture Company's Role in Fostering Innovation and Economic Development
El-Numani emphasized that the idea of establishing an investment company on Sohag University's grounds stems from the university's strategy to bolster its developmental and economic role. The company will undertake the task of marketing scientific research outputs and consulting services, in addition to investing in the university's intellectual and technical assets, thereby directly contributing to supporting innovation and economic development. This establishment is based on Law No. 23 of 2018 (Science, Technology, and Innovation Incentives Law), which allows universities to establish companies based on scientific research and innovation outcomes.
Integrated Activities of Sohag Venture Company
Dr. El-Numani clarified that the company will offer a comprehensive set of activities, including:
Marketing Scientific and Technical Consulting Services: Providing consultations in various fields.
