Check Out These 3 AI Grants Offered By Microsoft

Microsoft recently announced 3 AI for Earth grant opportunities in partnership with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF) and the National Geographic Society (NGS). Anyone who meets the below criteria is encouraged to apply. All models supported through these 3 grants must be open source and grant recipients must be willing to share their models for use by other environmental researchers and innovators. Here are the 3 grant opportunities:

1. Artificial Intelligence for Earth Innovation Grant

Over the past 20 years, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF) has awarded over $100 million in grants, funding 200+ high-impact projects in 50 countries. Microsoft is partnering with LDF on this AI for Earth Innovation Grant to support projects using AI to address environmental challenges. Applications are open until July 31, 2019 only to nonprofits and academic institutions.

The focus areas of this grant are: climate change, biodiversity, agriculture and water.

2. National Geographic Society’s AI for Earth Grant

Microsoft in partnership with the National Geographic Society are encouraging people to apply for the AI for Earth Innovation Grant. This grant is open to individuals and organizations with projects using AI to power work in climate change, agriculture, or water.

Applications are open until October 9, 2019 to  individuals and organizations across industries. The focus areas are climate change, agriculture and water. 

3. Artificial Intelligence for Species Discovery Grant

Microsoft and National Geographic Society are also now accepting proposals for a newly announced Artificial Intelligence for Species Discovery. This grant aims to leverage the power of AI to support biodiversity data collection and species identification in an effort to preserve Earth’s biodiversity for a more sustainable future.

Applications are open until January 2020. Proposals are encouraged for work in any biome. 

For all three grants, the proposal funding requests are up to $100,000 in addition to that, successful proposals will receive free access to AI for Earth APIs, applications, tools, and tutorials and support for computational work on Microsoft Azure.
