Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation: Investment Guarantee Mechanism with the European Union to be launched next June worth 1.8 billion Euros

Egypt Seeks to Deepen Economic Ties with Sweden, Highlights New Investment Guarantees
During the Egyptian-Swedish Business Forum held at the General Authority for Investment, Dr. Rania A. Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, emphasized Egypt's commitment to strengthening its economic partnership with Sweden. The forum saw the participation of key officials, including Eng. Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; Mr. Benjamin Dosa, Sweden’s Minister for Foreign Trade and International Development Cooperation; Ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt; and Ms. Maria Håkansson, CEO of Swedfund, alongside major Swedish companies such as IKEA, Ericsson, and Electrolux.
Investment Guarantees and Economic Reforms
Dr. Al-Mashat highlighted the upcoming launch in June of an Investment Guarantee Mechanism with the European Union, valued at €1.8 billion. This mechanism is designed to attract private capital and mobilize impactful investments in vital sectors like energy, infrastructure, digitalization, water, agriculture, and climate resilience. These guarantees are also expected to unlock additional financing from European and international development banks, enhancing Egypt's investment landscape and creating opportunities for the private sector, including Swedish companies.
The Minister underscored Egypt's ongoing "Advancing Economic Development in Egypt: Reforms for Growth, Jobs & Resilience" narrative, which aims to empower the private sector's leadership in driving growth and employment. She noted the ambitious measures implemented by the government since March 2024 to enhance macroeconomic stability and improve the business environment, leading to a shift towards non-petroleum manufacturing industries in economic growth and an increase in private sector investments.
Leveraging Swedish Expertise and Driving Sustainable Growth
Dr. Al-Mashat stressed the importance of fostering Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Swedish companies in Egypt and strengthening technical support within the framework of the national platform for the "NWFE" program. She also highlighted Egypt's efforts in the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), aimed at boosting the competitiveness of Egyptian exports while adapting to the green transition and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Minister reiterated that the forum provides a unique opportunity to build lasting partnerships, explore untapped potential, and align economic visions for a brighter future. She confirmed the Ministry's commitment to maximizing the benefit from development cooperation mechanisms with Sweden to drive economic development.
