A Ventures Doubles Down on Commitment to Mrkoon

A Ventures Increases Stake in Mrkoon, Fuels Regional Expansion
A Ventures has reinforced its commitment to Mrkoon, a digital marketplace for scrap and surplus materials, by increasing its stake from 20% to 28% through a new bridge funding round. This move signifies A Ventures' confidence in Mrkoon's potential to disrupt a fragmented industry and expand its operations into the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
A Ventures, an investment and portfolio management firm founded by Ayman Abbas, a prominent figure in Egypt's entrepreneurial ecosystem, specializes in supporting early-stage startups in Egypt and the Middle East. Beyond providing capital, the firm offers mentorship and strategic guidance to high-potential ventures.
Mrkoon, founded by Mohamed Shalabi, Ahmed Mamdouh, and Ahmed Amir, aims to streamline transactions in the scrap and surplus materials market by eliminating middlemen and ensuring price transparency.
Since its launch, Mrkoon has facilitated the trade of over 10,000 metric tons of materials, demonstrating the demand for digital solutions in this sector.
Sherif Ramadan, CEO of A Ventures, explained, "Our decision to double down on our investment reflects our belief in the team’s execution, the market’s untapped potential, and the platform’s ability to scale beyond Egypt. With this additional funding, we’re not just backing a startup—we’re fueling a digital revolution in a multi-billion-dollar industry."
A Ventures' support aligns with its strategy to introduce structure and generate measurable impact in fragmented industries. The firm recognizes Mrkoon's model as optimizing supply chains and contributing to the circular economy by reducing waste and repurposing resources.
With the new funding, Mrkoon plans to expand regionally, starting with the GCC, driven by the increasing demand for digitized supply chain solutions in the area. Mohamed Shalabi, CEO of Mrkoon, highlighted that A Ventures' support extends beyond capital, encompassing strategic partnerships and market insights that will enable faster scaling, technological improvements, and successful market entry.
