Motherbeing Secures USD 200,000 in Pre-Seed Funding to Advance Reproductive Health App

Motherbeing, an Egyptian femtech startup, has secured USD 200,000 in pre-seed funding from Madica, an Africa-focused pre-seed investment program. The investment, accompanied by 18 months of support, marks Madica's debut in North Africa and positions Motherbeing as a key player in the region's burgeoning digital health sector.

Founded in 2020 by Nour Emam, Motherbeing aims to address the reproductive health needs of Arab women through educational programs, digital health solutions, and AI-powered chat assistance. The startup recently launched Daleela by Motherbeing, an AI-driven women's health application.

Madica's investment reflects the program's commitment to supporting startups that address pressing social challenges. "Motherbeing recognized the absence of adequate support for reproductive health, maternal care, and holistic wellness, particularly in regions where misinformation and stigmas persist," stated Francis Vesta, investment associate at Madica. "This unmet need aligns with Madica’s mission to back startups that are solving urgent challenges with significant social impact potential."

Egypt's high mobile phone penetration rate, reaching approximately 95%, presents a significant opportunity for health tech investors. This factor, combined with the relative underdevelopment of the healthcare technology sector compared to other industries like fintech, positions Daleela to be an early mover in the market.

"We believe that Egypt’s healthcare system is long overdue for technological disruption," said Yousef El Sammaa, co-founder and CEO of Daleela. "The time for change is now, and we aim to be one of the leading companies driving this transformation in Egypt and the broader region."

The funding will be used to further develop the Daleela app, with a particular focus on its AI-powered medical diagnosis system. In addition to financial support, Motherbeing will receive 18 months of coaching and access to international markets and partnerships to facilitate further financing and scale-up efforts.

Motherbeing plans to leverage its existing user base, over 30% of which resides outside Egypt, to initiate a regional expansion. The company intends to enter the Saudi market first, followed by the rest of the GCC. The startup aims to expand its user base to 500,000 by the end of the year, up from its current 70,000 users.
