After 6 months from joining the leading app-based car service in the region, Careem Company announced in a press release on Sunday the resignation of Wael el Fakharany as the managing director in Egypt and senior vice president for government relations at the company, and the appointment of Ramy Kato as the Head of its operations in Egypt in addition to his current role as Vice President of Careem Care. The company commenting on Fakharany’s resign saying "There are times when a great mind in a great role at a great business does not necessarily make a great fit."

The company has achieved significant growth on its other branches around the world since Fakharany’s appointment. It has achieved remarkable growth exceeding 300%, and has acquired most of Careem’s global operations.

On the other hand, Fakharany announced on his Twitter account that he didn’t resign but he was “fired in a surprising and humiliating way” and he expressed his sadness from this incident.

From another side, Careem explained in its press release that Kato, CEO of Xceed previously, will be responsible through his new position for managing all Careem operations in Egypt including overlooking Careem’s expansion plans in the local market, government relations and day-to-day business operations.

And the question will remain: Will Careem continue as powerful as now or not?

Careem answered this question explaining that Kato has more than 21 years of experience in operations, care, general management and business development. He has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the American University in Cairo and an E.M.B.A from the University of E.S.C Rennes in France.

And the company added in its press release that “In that time specifically, Ramy will now help drive business growth in the regional market, especially for the Egyptian cities, as well as support with strategic partnerships, R&D, the creation of jobs and economic prosperity for all captains.”
