Speculations about Apple Smart Glasses after acquiring AR startup

Apple confirmed last week that it acquired Akonia Holographics, which is a startup that makes augmented reality lenses. Many consider this move a step towards an augmented reality product soon from Apple.

"I'm incredibly excited by AR because I can see uses for it everywhere...in education, in consumers, in entertainment, in sports. I can see it in every business that I know anything about,” Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said in an event last year.

AR technology basically involves merging digital figures into the real world, its use can be seen in the game Pokemon Go and Snapchat filters. Many Technology companies are now offering AR glasses such as Microsoft HoloLens and Google Glass.

Akonia Holographics was founded in 2012 by a group of holography scientists. The company described its lenses as, “thin, transparent smart glass lenses that display vibrant, full-color, wide field-of-view images.”
