One Million Arab Coders Initiative is Looking for a Second Cohort

Arabs from across the region can now apply to be a part of the second cohort to learn coding online for free under the initiative “one million Arab coders.”

The initiative has been developed by the Dubai future foundation in strategic partnership with Damac, a properties development company and the car booking app Careem. The first cohort had applicants from 12 Arab countries including Egypt, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

“One million Arab coders” will run over the next two years and provides a program in four different tracks, including android developer track, front-end web developer track and data analyst track.

"We’re on a mission to simplify and improve the lives of people, and through this programme, we hope to make coding an accessible skill for all enthusiastic learners," Careem said in an email to the app users. Careem will provide scholarships, internships and mentorship programmes over the next two years.
This initiative seeks to equip young Arabs with the skills needed to work in the growing IT sectors, It’s projected that 80 million jobs will be available by 2020, gulfnews reported.
