Egypt Opens National Tech Hub to Commercialise Local Invention

Egypt Launches National Tech Hub to Commercialize Local Innovations
Egypt has inaugurated the National Center for Technology Commercialization (NCTC), a new facility designed to transform local research and inventions into marketable products. Operating under the Ministry of Higher Education, the NCTC was developed by Progressio in collaboration with the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT).

Bridging the Gap Between Academia and Industry
The center's primary goal is to connect academic research with industrial needs. It will serve as a public platform fostering collaboration among scientists, startups, and private companies. The NCTC will provide crucial support services, including intellectual property protection, technology transfer, licensing, and early-stage venture development. Its focus areas include high-impact sectors like agriculture, energy, healthcare, and information technology.

Addressing the Innovation-to-Market Disconnect
Despite a strong entrepreneurial spirit in Egypt (60% of adults are interested in starting a business, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor), there's a noticeable gap between research output and commercial application. In 2022, Egypt filed just over 1,000 patent applications, a relatively modest number internationally. The NCTC aims to address this by equipping inventors with the necessary tools to bring their ideas to market.

This initiative is part of the larger One Million Minds Movement, which seeks to engage Egyptian innovators through various incubators, workshops, and mentorship programs. Further details regarding the NCTC's digital platform, service launch, and public initiatives are anticipated in the coming months.
