Data Journalism conference to be launched next Saturday at British University in Cairo

Arab Data Journalists Network and Faculty of Mass Communication and Mass Media of the British University in Cairo launch the second session of Arab Data Journalism Conference on the 23rd of March under the title “Data Journalism in Arabic Newsrooms.”

About 300 journalists, academics, researchers, professors and students will attend in the conference in addition to international experts and pioneers in the data journalism field in the event that will take place from the 23rd until the 25th of March.

The conference comes this year in cooperation with many international and Arabic institutions including Google News Initiative, Infotimes, Data Aurora, Canadian Embassy in Cairo and Abaad Institution for Digital Production.

Artificial intelligence and data processing are main axes of the conference. The conference will hosts 40 speakers from all around the world and more than 20 sessions varying between general sessions, discussion panels and workshops.

Amr Eraqi, Founder of Arab Data Journalist Network, says that the use of “Data Journalism” term increased within the Arabic media community but at the same time there was not a sufficient production of stories supported by data in our Arab journalism institutions.

Thus, he confirms that the network is keen on improving participants' skills through technical sessions and workshops in its next conference to enable Arab journalists to use the required tools for producing significant stories supported by data in Arabic news.
