Aira: Providing Instant Visual Information to Visually Impaired Individuals

4 years 11 months ago

Opportunity

Visually impaired individuals need assistance to be able to navigate their daily lives because they lack visual information, but if this information is made available, they’d be able to finish all their daily tasks independently and efficiently.

Solution

Aira provides users either with glasses equipped with a high-definition camera and a speaker, or a mobile phone application, to send a live stream of their surroundings to an “agent,” who will look at the footage and transfer that information to them. Through Aira, users were able to do simple things such as taking a walk in their neighborhood by themselves for the first time or hike in the wilderness or even run a marathon, Fast Company reported.
